As you may have seen on TV and Internet, southeast Texas has suffered devastating flooding due to Hurricane Harvey. I've lived in the Greater Houston area for 30 years and there has never been flooding like this. Luckily, my home and neighborhood is high and dry, but there are so many homes and subdivisions close by that are still with water.
I was going to write a blog post about new inventory for the Fall, but that can wait. The storm clouds have passed and I am slowly focusing on my little business. No one really knows what the impact this flood will have on Houston for the next few years. The amount of homes and businesses damaged by the water is so great.
Texans are a strong people, whether they were born here or immigrated over. The sense of community and independent spirit is strong in our community. It isn't hype. 'Texas Strong' is our motto and I, as a transplanted girl from Kansas, feel and see that strength in the people around me.
So, I am donating 10% of my proceeds from items sold from my Boulder Blue online shop and Etsy shop to Interfaith of The Woodlands during the month of September. I already have made several runs to Interfaith with baby diapers, food and cleaning supplies, but I wanted to do more. After the shock and adrenaline wears off, more people will be resuming their normal lives and routines, while many will still be in great need.
Till next time!
